~Enemies~

Wat sees Chaucer as an enemy; this is fine with Chaucer. As enemies, despite both being William's compatriots, he can fight with Wat, make suggestions—innuendoes—that aren't taken seriously because, in Wat's eyes, they're meant only to infuriate. It's fun for Chaucer, seeing how outlandish he can be and how long Wat will take to pick up on his meaning. Later, under the cover of darkness, Chaucer can torture himself with Wat's responses, offensive retorts to words he'd gladly accept coming from a woman. But Chaucer's not a woman, and he keeps insulting Wat to remind himself of that.

Bloody stupid idiot. Chaucer was a writer; he was s'posed to pick up on stuff. Observe, understand, then write about human nature or some bollocks like that. If so, then Chaucer was the thick-headedest writer Wat knew. Because how many interpretations of "fong" were there aside from beating someone up or having sex with 'em? And Chaucer never got it! It was enough to make Wat want to fong him again! Maybe he should stop being so subtle seeing as how bloody stupid Chaucer somehow, despite claiming to be an author, didn't get subtle. Right, new plan of attack then....
