The Forbidden Mushi hurt. The Chaste said they would teach her to draw it out so it could be killed, piece by piece; the Hand claimed they would unleash it from her, bringing devastation to the Hand's enemies if she joined them. The only one who had ever cared for how the Forbidden Mushi affected her, tried to soothe her—and it—was Matt.

Soft hands coated in liniment massaged her leg, and a quiet voice distracted her. He understood her when everything became too much.

Would that she could stay with him, but she had been given a mission.
