This was the moment of truth. Foggy thought Matt couldn't do it, couldn't conquer this one last hurdle. But Matt was determined to prove Foggy wrong.

The oven timer beeped; ten minutes now until either vindication or failure.

The wait was agonizing but necessary.

With the beep of a second timer, Matt carefully slid one of the still warm—but no longer hot and now properly set—macarons into his hand. The dome was smooth with a gentle curve. The thickness, perfect. And there...
